eFiction is not a literary journal. It is a magazine that presents guilty pleasure fiction of all genres. We publish stories from previously published and unpublished authors alike, but we prefer to publish new authors who are unrepresented and do not have current publishing deals with big publishers. To better your chances of acceptance, here are some simple guidelines that reach across all genres:

Formatting

Formatting isn’t make-or-break, but it does put your manuscript ahead of every poorly formated piece when we first open it. The perfect submission has:

- Contact info in the top left
- Word count in the top right
- Title centered on the page with name (or pen name) underneath
- Standard serif font in about 12 point
- Single spaced
- .RTF, .DOC, or .DOCX format

That's it.

Rights

We only want rights to your work for one publication in the magazine. That's it. You keep the rights to your work to go on and use again in the future. Or if your work has been published before that's fine too, as long as you hold the rights at time of publication.

Themes

We alternate themed issues with open genre issues. If you don't see your genre, you can submit anyway and your work could be featured in an open theme issue. Or petition the editorial staff to get your genre/theme its own issue.

Short Fiction

Size limit: 10,000 words

We accept fiction of every genre and maturity level. Every story can find a place in our issues(not always on the first try though). Give us a shot. The worst that could happen is that you get some solid feedback from the staff and can try us again.

A biography and a one sentence synopsis of your story is required for submission. Include these two elements in the cover letter section when submitting your work. Bio must be less than 200 words.

Please follow the guidelines and send us your best!

Poetry

No limits. You have full and complete creative freedom to express yourself.

Book Review

Size limit: 500 - 1500 words

We publish book reviews of any genre and publisher. We ask that you not review your own work, for obvious reasons. Reviews that have context within the scope of the industry are preferred. We want reviews that will carry weight.

Special note for professional book reviewers, don't just publish your reviews on your blog. Publish them in eFiction as well. Our readers could be your readers. The reviews will not be published publicly, so don't worry about the duplicate content. Only subscribers will be able to read your reviews. This is great way to expand your blog audience.

Size limit: None

Serial Fiction

Stories that are longer than what is generally printed in one issue of eFiction. We want stories that are episodic in nature, meaning that readers can follow the story issue-to-issue and enjoy the developing plot but at the same time a new reader can jump in at any episode and understand what is going on and enjoy the episode as it stands.

We request that you submit three or more episodes in one document. Writing a serial is a large commitment and we'd like to know that you are serious and can work on time with quality storytelling.

For that reason, we offer free ad placement in the magazine to promote your book, magazine, publication, or other service.

Please send us a 600 x 800 pixel image for consideration.
